Faisal Ali Endowment Fund

The Faisal Ali Endowment Fund was established by Mohamed and Opheerah Nasir in honor of their beloved grandson, the late Faisal Ali. This fund is a means of ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), ensuring that his memory continues to bring benefit to others.

Faisal Ali was born in London to Guyanese immigrants, Zahida and Yasin Ali, and was raised in Monroe, Connecticut, alongside his sister, Sabia. He attended local schools and later pursued higher education at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. In May 1995, he graduated with a degree in Finance and Economics, filled with aspirations for the future. However, later that same year, Allah decreed his return, as he tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident.

In the early morning of October 13, 1995, Faisal suffered severe head injuries in an accident and returned to his Lord at University Hospital in Newark. His passing left a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, yet his legacy of kindness and sincerity continues to inspire those who knew him.

Faisal was known for his good character, generosity, and willingness to help others. His college best friend, Haris Hot, described him as "genuine," always ready to extend a helping hand. Laura Fernandes, a dean at Masuk, spoke of his independence and strong personality. His love for basketball was evident, as he played competitively in high school and enjoyed spirited discussions about the Big East conference with Ron Wallisa, director of Parks and Recreation.

Family was at the core of Faisal’s life. He maintained a close bond with his maternal grandparents in Toronto and deeply valued his relationships with his cousins. Brian Humpal, a high school friend, recalled Faisal’s tough exterior, which concealed a kind and caring heart—always willing to go the extra mile for those he loved.

As a sign of divine wisdom, Faisal’s funeral service was held behind the very basketball courts where he spent so much of his time, as the Monroe Mosque was under construction at the time. It was a fitting farewell in a place that held many cherished memories.

Through the Faisal Ali Endowment Fund, his name continues to be a source of goodness, supporting initiatives that reflect his values and the spirit of generosity he embodied. May Allah accept this as a means of ongoing reward for him, illuminate his grave with mercy, and grant him the highest ranks in Jannah. May He reunite him with his loved ones in the Gardens of Paradise, forgive his shortcomings, and reward him for the love and kindness he spread in this world. Ameen.
