Olive Tree Foundation grants funding to support refugee palliative care
Olive Tree Foundation is proud to announce its recent grant to the innovative non-profit organization, GPS Health Navigators, whose aim is to provide essential support to refugee patients with palliative care needs in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region (GTHA).
This significant grant has been made possible through the generous returns from the 'Ansar Healthcare Fund,' a donor-advised fund established by the Ansar Financial Group within Olive Tree Foundation. The fund's primary purpose is to enhance the quality of life in the community by endorsing initiatives in the healthcare services sector.
"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Olive Tree Foundation for their generous grant, which will enable our organization to launch its operations and cover critical startup expenses," stated Dr. Humaira Saeed, Director of GPS Health Navigators. "As healthcare professionals focused on supporting individuals with life-threatening illnesses, we have recognized the unique challenges that refugees face in accessing palliative care within their communities. In response, we have established a dedicated service to address the needs of this vulnerable population."
GPS Health Navigators has meticulously crafted this service based on a thorough examination of the barriers involved in delivering palliative care to refugees. This comprehensive service model involves a dedicated team of a social worker (SW) and a palliative care specialist who will work closely with refugee clients from the initial referral stage and throughout the patient's journey through the disease trajectory.
“Olive Tree Foundation is pleased to support refugees through this new service that will provide palliative care to them as they are moved from acute care settings into the community,” said Muneeb Nasir, Chair of the Olive Tree Foundation. “Our Foundation has been committed since its inception to fund compelling needs and priorities in society. Together we’re building a stronger society.”
GPS Health Navigators is a not-for-profit hybrid (virtual and on site) navigation clinic that has been registered to support refugee patients on the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), via Blue Cross. We aim to specifically support those with palliative care needs in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region (GTHA).
