Olive Tree Foundation Awards Grant to Social Services Network

The Olive Tree Foundation will provide a grant to the Social Services Network for the project, “The Craft Club – Program for Women", which will be done in conjunction with The Intergeneration Community Network Services (TICNS).The project will provide senior and newcomer women in the Flemingdon and Thorncliffe neighborhood with a safe and comfortable environment to come together and express themselves creatively through arts and craft, such as sewing.  The intended aim of this program is to reduce isolation and increase social participation.“With the funding received, women experiencing isolation and a decrease in their mental and physical health will have an opportunity to explore their talents and increase their wellbeing,” said Sajeda Khan, Program Manager of The Intergeneration Community Network Services. “Olive Tree Foundation has given us the support needed to provide such an important program to the community.”"The Olive Tree Foundation is very pleased to be able fund this important project of the Social Service Network," said Muneeb Nasir, President of the Foundation, in announcing the grant. "This project will help allow women in this neighborhood to give voice to their experiences through the art of craft.”The Intergeneration Community Network Services (TICNS) has been working in the Flemingdon and Thorncliffe neighborhood for over 15 years and has strong ties to the community. The sponsor of the project, Social Services Network (SSN), is a non-profit charitable organization delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services to the diverse South Asian community in the York Region.
