-- Project will address knowledge gap on white supremacist, neo-nazi, and other far-right extremist groups in Canada.

The Olive Tree Foundation is pleased to announce that a grant has been awarded to the Windsor Islamic Association for the project, “Tackling White Supremacy in Canada.”

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) will develop the project in partnership with the Windsor Islamic Association. The grant was partially funded through the Ghulam Sajan Fund, an endowed fund within the Olive Tree Foundation.

The “Tackling White Supremacy in Canada Project” seeks to address the knowledge gap on white supremacist, neo-nazi, and other far-right extremist groups in Canada through research.

“Our team at NCCM is excited to get this project underway with the generous support of the Olive Tree Foundation” says Nadia Hasan, Deputy Director of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM). “This research on white supremacist organizations will form the groundwork of our continued efforts to tackle Islamophobia in all its forms in Canada.”

The purpose of the report is to firstly inform Canadians about white supremacy in Canada and assess the impact of government policies on addressing these extremist groups. Secondly, as potentially impacted communities become more aware of the issues, the report will be used as a basis for localized strategic planning to tackle white supremacy and designing safety measures.

"The Olive Tree Foundation is very pleased to fund the “Tackling White Supremacy in Canada Project,” says Naeem Siddiqi, Vice-Chair of the Olive Tree Foundation, in announcing the grant. "With the rise of Islamophobia and other hate activities, Canadian Muslims, as well as other marginalized and targeted communities, will benefit greatly from this project."

The Olive Tree Foundation is a philanthropic foundation that promotes community development through the collection of endowed funds and charitable contributions to fund services for the long-term benefit of the community.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is an independent, non-partisan and non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the human rights and civil liberties of Canadian Muslims (and by extension of all Canadians), promoting their public interests, building mutual understanding and challenging Islamophobia and other forms of xenophobia. The Windsor Islamic Association (WIA) has been serving a population of over 25,000 Muslims in the City of Windsor and surrounding areas since 1964.
