The Zahid and Sherida Ali Family Fund is a tribute to the lasting impact of Zahid Ali, a man of unwavering faith, dedication, and service to his community. Zahid Ali, who returned to Allah on March 2, 2013, was a beloved friend, husband, father, and community leader. His tireless contributions as the treasurer of the Islamic Institute of Toronto and his commitment to education and virtuous living continue to inspire those who knew him.

Zahid Ali was known for his humility, kindness, and sincerity. He embodied the noble traits of the Prophetic character—cheerfulness, simplicity, and a deep sense of responsibility towards his community. Though he faced many trials, his steadfast faith and dedication to serving others never wavered. His life serves as a reminder of the profound hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “People are like camels; out of a hundred, you will be lucky to find even one that is fit to do work.” (Reported by Imam Bukhari). Zahid was that rare and exceptional individual.

As Shaikh Ahmad Kutty wrote in his eulogy, “After having known Br. Zahid Ali for over two decades as both a friend and colleague, I can say that he was one of the gentlest souls I knew. He embodied some of the noblest traits of the Prophetic character—humility, cheerfulness, simplicity, and cordiality; all qualities of an authentic Islamic personality that none among us can afford to ignore.”
